A Reporter’s Prayer
You are fact. marriage game over And you have known as us as journalists to a profoundly essential activity. To tell the reality. However to do this, we should find it.
And as we pursue it, it comes in many parts. One group tells us one thing. One other, simply the alternative, one other something else. Give us the wisdom and understanding and talent to know which components are true after which to place the appropriate components collectively in the proper order.
As we do our jobs, we are often manipulated, misled, managed and maligned. May we not be discouraged. Reward us with persistence, guide us with frequent sense, guard us from pessimism.
Help us to be a voice for the voiceless To be skeptical however never cynical Righteously offended on the wrongs we expose, but by no means revengeful.
Keep our hearts from despair and give us the courage and steadfastness to go to locations and ask the questions and shine the light that our readers and viewers must make sense of this all-too-fallen world.
Keep us secure from hurt as we do our jobs. However may we also understand that in doing our jobs, we frequently trigger harm. Make us humbly conscious of the facility of phrases and footage and assist us to decide on them carefully, at all times looking for to reduce hurt, by no means exploiting the details, slanting the story or preconceiving our prejudices to push a private agenda.
May we admit and correct our errors promptly, learning from them.
However O God, might we especially realize that every one information will not be bad news. That love, joy, peace, persistence, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-management what your phrase calls the fruit of your sprit are throughout us and part of the good news we are also responsible to inform.
Might our experiences inform, not inflame.
May they encourage not discourage.
May we be delicate as a substitute of sensationalistic Mirror motive not ridicule Be balanced not bitter.
May the phrases we write and the pictures we display describe not distort.
Assist us to teach and to even entertain however never to entice.
Could our power never be tainted by our pride.
Could we perceive that it’s extra important to be fair than first That respect is more necessary than ratings and that truthfulness and honesty and compassion and integrity are the traits that we should pursue in ourselves as much and as rigorously as we do in others.
To be the journalists you will have known as us to be, I pray, Father, within the newsrooms and Television stations and radio studios and enhancing suites of this land, that you would impress on each one among us that there’s an Absolute, Unchanging Reality with a capital T that we have to open our hearts to listen to. May you plant Your Reality in us in order that we can then inform it to others.
Lastly Father, could we each day be reminded that with great power comes great duty. Might we please you in the best way we exercise it.
We pray this within the strong name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who’s the reality, The Life and The way. Amen.
